STEP 7
Eventually a carriage bolt will need
to go through the center of the disk. prepare for that now by drilling
a hole in the disks center just wide enough to fit the bold
through. |
|
STEP 8
A hole needs to be created for the vacuum/blower.
Make this hole about 1 inch in diameter. It should be smaller the
hose from the blower. The smaller hole will prevent the hose from
accidentally be pushed though the disk and ripping the plastic. This
hole should drilled about 1/2 the
radius from the center. |
|
STEP 9
Open up the 6 mil, 8 ft X 8 ft, plastic.
Lay the disk upside down on the plastic. Fold one corner. For easy
access. work on the hovercraft with it laying upside down on a table.
6 mil thick plastic very thick and expensive ($40 for a roll 10 ft
by 100 ft). The thicker the plastic the more durabe the hovercraft. |
|
STEP 10
This is the hardest step to understand. (It helps to have an extra set of hands
when folding the plastic.) Using a meter stick place it about 6 inches to one
side of where the plastic is tight against the disk from the fist fold. Grab
the plastic (not at the next corner) and fold towards the center, over the
meter stick. Then place a second meter at an angle towards the center and fold
the plastic towards the outside of the circle. Repeat this process with a lot
of folds. You do not have to follow this exact procedure for folding just fold
the plastic tight all the way around. When the the plastic is inflated with
air later it will stretch enough. It helps to clamp the disk to the table while
working on it. Be careful to place a piece of wood between the plastic the
the clamp. Else the plastic will rip when the clamp is tightened. |
|
|
STEP 11
Staple a second ring around the hovercrafts
plastic. Place the staples about 2 to 4 inches away from the outside
edge of the disk. When these staples are placed, staple a small 11/2 X
11/2 piece
of manila folder under each staple. This piece of manila folder will
spread out the force of the staple and better hold the plastic in
place. |
 |
STEP 12
Cover the entire back
of the plastic with the BEST duct tape money can buy. (Better quality
duct tape is thicker.)

|
STEP 13
Carefully cut a hole out of the duct tape then the hose will go.
