STEPS 14-20

STEP 14
Using a hot knife or a large hot nail make a hole in the center of the two plastic lids as shown below.

STEP 15
Turn the hovercraft over. Place the two plastic container tops upside down on the hover craft. Take some duct (4 pieces) and make a square under the edges of the lids. This will keep the plastic lids from wearing through the plastic covering.

STEP 16
Push the 1-1/2” carriage bolt through the holes in the lids and the plastic. On the other side of the hovercraft disk place a fender washer, lock washer and nut on the carriage bolt. A carriage bolt looks like a screw without a slot in its top. Using a carriage bole will help prevent scratching the floor. A fender washer is a large diameter washer with a small hole in the center.

STEP 17
On the plastic side draw a circle 6 inches in diameter. I used a 12” embroidery hoop to make my circle. On the 6 inch diameter circle, draw 8 smaller circles. Equally space the circles. Make the smaller circles by tracing around a U.S. quarter. (~1 inch in diameter)

STEP 18
Using a fresh, sharp, razor blade, carefully cut out the SMALLER circles. A fresh, sharp blade is less likely to rip the plastic when compared to using a duller blade.

STEP 19

Turn the disk over. Using a squared piece of 2 x 4 cut a hole larger in diameter than the hose. Then screw this block over the disk on the duct tape side. Because the hole is bigger than the disk’s hole, the disk itself will act like a flange and keep the hose from puncturing the plastic when it is inserted. to make the hose fit tightly in the hole, wrap a piece or two of duct tape around its tip.

STEP 20
Wrap the perimeter of the disk with at least 2 layers of duct tape. The edges take a beating.
